Domestic Violence / Restraining Orders

Your Trusted Allies in Trying Times

Sometimes divorce is a question of separating two people who can’t get along; other times, it’s a matter of personal safety for you and your children. At Bliss Law Group, we treat cases of domestic violence with the gravity, care, and respect they deserve. Our attorneys will take every necessary step to shelter you, your assets, and your family from mistreatment and abuse.

We respect the needs of domestic violence survivors. Because your divorce may not follow a typical or predictable course, we are prepared to address your concerns as they come up. Our caring attorneys will assist you in the process of petitioning the courts for a protective order. With a practiced approach, these legal orders can be used to accommodate your immediate needs as well as your long-term safety and wellbeing.

Court Orders for Domestic Violence

Restraining Orders: You must file a restraining order as part of a divorce, paternity, or other family law case. While it can be used in cases of domestic violence, it can also apply in matters of property, child support, and spousal support. If you believe your spouse may try to meddle with your assets while you are separated, you may benefit from this option. Our attorneys can help you acquire a restraining order to protect yourself, your children, and your property.

Domestic Violence Protection Orders: We can help you obtain a DVPO specifically to prevent a member of your family or household from threatening or harming you. This type of order does NOT have the power to order child support, alimony, or permanent custody. If your spouse is the respondent, the DVPO can order him or her to stay out of your residence, give you temporary custody of your kids, allow you to use a vehicle and take essential personal items, and attend counseling sessions. The initial order will be almost immediate, but temporary, and it may be extended for a year or more after a court hearing.

Stay Safe

If you need protection from an abusive spouse, the law is on your side—and so are we. Our attorneys will act as your strongest line of defense, going above and beyond to ensure you are protected. If you have questions about any part of this process, don’t worry. We are here to guide you every step of the way.
