Controller

Controller

Bliss Law Group is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead our accounting and financial systems with accuracy, insight, and integrity. This is a key role for a professional who thrives on structure, loves improving processes, and is committed to supporting a mission-driven team.

About the Role

The Controller oversees all financial operations of Bliss Law Group, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and clarity across the firm’s accounting and reporting functions. You will play a critical part in guiding financial strategy, managing internal controls, and partnering closely with leadership to support high-level decision-making. This role is ideal for someone who is analytical, proactive, and deeply organized—someone who finds satisfaction in developing efficient systems and who believes that strong financial stewardship directly supports a healthy, thriving workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily and monthly accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, trust accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards, including WSBA trust accounting rules.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership, including variance analysis and insights to support strategic decisions.
  • Manage cash flow, budgeting processes, forecasting, and financial modeling.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial systems to increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop financial strategies aligned with firm goals, growth initiatives, and long-term planning.
  • Work closely with HR and operations to support compensation planning, benefits administration, and compliance tracking.
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and financial partners as needed.
  • Oversee and mentor any accounting support staff, setting clear expectations and fostering professional growth.

Who You Are

  • You are highly analytical, dependable, and detail-obsessed—in the best way.
  • You bring a solutions-oriented mindset and enjoy improving processes and systems.
  • You communicate financial information clearly and professionally to both financial and non-financial team members.
  • You are proactive, organized, and able to manage competing priorities with confidence.
  • You value accuracy, transparency, and collaboration as foundational elements of strong financial management.
  • You thrive in a supportive, growth-oriented culture that values professionalism, kindness, and continuous learning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practices.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial management tools.
  • Strong understanding of payroll, HR compliance basics, and benefits administration workflows.
  • Exceptional integrity and commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA license or eligibility preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a professional services environment (legal, medical, consulting, or similar).
  • Familiarity with trust accounting and/or law firm financial models.
  • Experience optimizing accounting systems or leading system transitions.

Compensation: $70,000 – $85,000
